A Brief History :-

 Sorab is located on the north western of the Shimoga District at distance of 92kms. Sorab is Situated in the Malnad region bounded by Sahyadri ghats a place Known for its scenic beauty,lush green forests,cool climate which is situated at mean elevation of 579mts.,inthe north western part of Shimoga.Sorab taluk is rich in flora and fauna sorrounted by dense forest.it is well known for quality teak wood.and is Being exported all over the world.(it's being used in parliamentary house in England)Sorab is 4th largest taluk of Shimoga district.Soraba Taluk Spreads over an area of about 1148Sq.Km.with a forest area of about 22537.88Sq.hecter.The Population of Sorab as Per 2001 CENUS is about 11.002 Persons other than its dense forest is home for wild animals like Elephants,Tigers,Leopards,Bear.and Antelope. No major rivers flow in the taluk therefore taluk entirely depends on ponds,check dams,well and borewell for both domestic water supply and irrigation purpose.  

Gudavi Bird Sanctuary  :-

The Gudavi Bird Sanctuary is located on the Banavasi Rad in Gudavi of Sorab Taluk in Shimoga District. A well  know birds sanctuary-Gudavi Bird Sanctuary is also apart of Sorab taluk.Birds  from all over the world migrate to this place which at a distance of 16Kms from Sorab town .The Gudavi Bird Sanctuary of Karnataka is one of the five best bird sanctuaries of Karnataka.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the Gudavi Bird Sanctuary in Karnataka, you will get the opportunity to see varieties of birds from the months of May till November.  A natural lake of Gudavi and the large canopy of trees serves as a shelter to the various species of birds.  chandragutti :

 As Chandragutti and Gudavi Bird Sanctuary or on the same road, one can visit these two together. They both a have difference of approx 10-12 kms from each other.Chandragutti is situated at a distance of 16 kms from Soraba (main bus stand). Soraba is one of the beautiful villages in Sahyadri ranges. The temple is situated on top of a hill which is completely covered with greenery.we were welcomed by a small pond which is known as Tottila baavi and also there is small rock on which foot prints of main deity is carved. Chandragutti is a religious center for goddess Renukamba wife of Jamadagni and mother Parusharam.Once we crossed few steps, on to the right hand side there is a small temple of Kalabairaveshwara.In this temple lord is in both human and in lingam form. Along with this goddess there are 2 more temple, one of sacred seven headed Nagaraja  and Parusharam right in front of the Goddess Renukamba and the other one is of Shoolada Beerappa, there is a stair way which leads towards down the hill here is the temple of Shoolada Beerappa. This Shoolada Beerappa has hundreds of tridents (thrisuhla)emerged from earth.

 

 

 

Jog Falls :-

Jog Falls is the highest waterfall in India, River Sharavathi cascades down 292 m in four distinct falls at Gerusoppa is a roaring treat to one?s eyes. Linganamakki Dam and MGHE Works are the places to visit around here is about 42 Kms from here. One of the highest waterfalls in India Jog Falls is one of the major attractions in Karnataka. Created on Sharavathi River, Jog Falls is also known by alternative names of Gerusoppe Falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi. For a Tour to Jog Falls, the best time to visit is between the months of August and December.
